Shiva Mandir - Khimsar

A documented stop on Adi Shankaracharya's route across India.

This sacred kṣetra at Khimsar preserves an ancient Śiva Temple centered around an Īśwara Liṅga worshipped with deep reverence within the local traditions of the region. Alongside the Liṅga are Vigrahas of Nandi and Devi, which appear to belong to a later period of restoration or re-establishment within the temple complex. Traditions associated with the kṣetra affirm that Adi Shankaracharya performed the pratiṣṭhā of the Īśwara Liṅga during the course of his Yatra through the region, sanctifying the temple as a center of Śiva upāsana and spiritual continuity.
Adjacent to the temple lies a serene lake and a sacred Khejadi tree, preserved in local memory as the very spot where Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have stayed and undertaken contemplation beneath its shade.
