Shiva Doul at Dergaon is dedicated to Lord Śiva and cherished by devotees for its serene spiritual atmosphere and enduring connection to the region's sacred traditions. Local tradition holds that Bhagavatpāda Ādi Śaṅkarācārya visited this sacred spot during his travels across the region, spending a day on the banks of the nearby river immersed in contemplation, prayer, and spiritual observances.
The temple is traditionally associated with the Pratiṣṭhā of the Śiva Liṅga by Bhagavatpāda himself. Devotees believe that after spending time in meditation on the riverbank, he consecrated the Liṅga and blessed the kṣetra, establishing it as a kshetra of Shiva worship and Vaidika practice.
