Śrī Rāma Mandira, Barbarshah — Srinagar

A documented stop on Adi Shankaracharya's route across India.

Located at Sathu Barbarshah in the heart of Srinagar, approximately one kilometre from Lal Chowk, Śrī Rāma Mandira is one of the prominent Hindu temples of the city. The temple stands upon an elevated platform nearly ten feet above the surrounding ground level and comprises a central shrine dedicated to Lord Śrī Rāma, together with a Havan-śālā, residential quarters, and an open courtyard that serves as a gathering space for devotees and religious observances. Its location within the historic urban fabric of Srinagar has made it an important centre of worship for generations.
Traditional accounts further associate this kṣetra with the visit of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya during his travels through Kashmir. Shastric indications preserved in local recitations maintain that the Acharya blessed this sacred site and offered worship here. The temple also preserves a revered pādukā traditionally associated with Adi Shankaracharya, which continues to be regarded as a reminder of the enduring connection between the Acharya and this ancient centre of devotion to Lord Rāma.
