Mata Mandir - Jalloke

A documented stop on Adi Shankaracharya's route across India.

Maata Mandir is an old Durga temple situated in Jalloke village in the Punjab frontier belt near the Sutlej region. The sacred site today is within a Gurudwara complex, reflecting the layered devotional history and shared sacred landscape of the border region. The temple is dedicated to Maa Durga and preserves an old tradition of Devi worship in the village.Local tradition maintains that Adi Shankaracharya visited the kṣetra and performed Pratiṣṭhā at the shrine.
Within the sanctum are preserved: two black stones, and one white stone in the center,
which are revered as ancient sacred presences associated with the Devi worship tradition of the temple.
The shrine also houses an Ishwara Vigraha. Local custodial tradition maintains that this Ishwara Vigraha was worshipped by Adi Shankaracharya during his stay at the kṣetra.
Among the forms of Devi worshipped here, Sheetala Devi is regarded as especially blessed by Adi Shankaracharya according to local oral tradition.
The sacred landscape around Jalloke reflects the continuity of older frontier-region worship traditions preserved through oral memory and custodial lineage.
