Kansua Shiv Mandir - Kota

A documented stop on Adi Shankaracharya's route across India.

Kansua Temple, traditionally associated with the ancient Kaṇvāśrama of Maharṣi Kaṇva, is among the oldest and most spiritually significant Śaiva kṣetras of the Hadoti region. Revered for its rare Chaturmukhi Śiva Liṅga, ancient stone architecture, and atmosphere of tapas and sacred antiquity, the kṣetra preserves a living continuity of Śiva worship in the Chambal region. Local traditions identify this sacred region with the āśrama of Sage Kaṇva, from whom the name Kansua is believed to have originated, making the temple not merely a place of worship but a site deeply connected with the ṛṣi-paramparā and spiritual heritage of Bhārata.
Local recitations, oral traditions, and regional Śāstric references further speak of the visit of Adi Shankaracharya to the Kota region, where he is believed to have stayed for five days during the course of his Digvijaya Yatra. Traditions associated with the kṣetra describe a large Adivasi Sabha attended by more than 3500 people, along with a significant Śāstrārtha Sabha involving scholars and practitioners of various philosophical traditions. These accounts preserve the memory of the kṣetra as an important center of dialogue, spiritual revival, and the strengthening of Sanātana Dharma within the region.
Adi Shankaracharya stayed at this very place - all of the above (including the student engagement through Sports) took place in this Ashram.
