Shamlaji – Sacred Kṣetra of Gadādhara
Shamlaji Temple is an ancient and revered kṣetra, where Bhagavān is worshipped as Gadādhara. The present idol in the temple appears relatively recent, while local tradition holds that the older mūrti—now preserved in the nearby museum—was the very form worshipped by Adi Shankaracharya during his visit.
Temple Museum – Preserved Vigrahas
The modest museum located close to the temple houses several sacred vigrahas, including the earlier Gadādhara idol. Around 6–7 such mūrtis are preserved here, each traditionally believed to have received anugraha through worship associated with Adi Shankaracharya.
Īśvara Liṅga – Worshipped by Shankara
Just outside the museum stands a revered Īśvara Liṅga, sanctified by the worship of Adi Shankaracharya. Though placed outside today, it continues to radiate the sanctity of his presence and sādhanā.
Shankara’s Stay & Pathaśālā
Local tradition recounts that Adi Shankaracharya stayed here for a day during his digvijaya, residing in a nearby cave immersed in contemplation. Adi Shankaracharya has established a Pāṭhaśālā at this kṣetra, nurturing the study of śāstra and sustaining the flow of Advaita jñāna in the region.
