Tripureshwara Temple – Patan
The sacred Tripureshwara Temple is an ancient Śaiva kṣetra dedicated to Lord Tripureśwara, embodying the शक्ति that dissolves the threefold limitations (tripura) of the seeker. Though the temple as seen today reflects a recent jīrṇoddhāra(renovation), it carries a deep antiquity and spiritual continuity.
Sanctity of the Liṅga & Historical Memory
The Śiva Liṅga enshrined here bears visible marks and fractures, which local traditions attribute to past enemy attacks on the temple. These signs are preserved as silent testimony to the resilience of dharma and the enduring presence of the Divine despite historical upheavals.
Presence of Ganesha & Visit of Adi Shankaracharya
The temple also houses a sacred vigraha of Lord Ganapati, invoking auspicious beginnings and removal of obstacles. It is traditionally believed that Adi Shankaracharya visited this kṣetra during his digvijaya and offered worship to Tripureśwara, further sanctifying the temple through his presence and devotion.
