Ādi Śaṅkarācārya Maṭha - Bharuch

The Ādi Śaṅkarācārya Maṭha at Bharuch, situated in the ancient region associated with Bhṛgu Maharṣi, is traditionally regarded as a स्थल sanctified by the direct presence of Ādi Śaṅkaracharya during his travels across western Bhārata.
According to śāstric and regional accounts, Ādi Śaṅkaracharya is believed to have established the Temple & Ashrama and stayed for few days in the Ashrama.
Within the परिसर, the Pātāleśvara Liṅga is held to have been consecrated (pratiṣṭhita) by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya himself, reflecting the depth of his engagement at the site. Accompanying shrines of Gaṇapati and Añjaneya are likewise associated in local tradition with his worship. Additionally, a liṅga situated outside the main complex is also connected, according to traditional accounts, with Ādi Śaṅkaracharya’s presence, further extending the sacred imprint of his visit across the area.
