Adi Shankaracharya's Visit
- Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple in Kashi is revered as the abode of Swayambhu Hanuman, the self-manifested form of Lord Hanuman, worshipped as Sankat Mochan, the remover of difficulties and bestower of strength and divine protection.
- The kshetra is also associated with a visit by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya, adding to its significance in the sacred geography of Kashi. The temple is traditionally associated with Goswami Tulsidas, the saint-poet whose devotion to Lord Hanuman and Lord Rāma profoundly shaped the devotional heritage of the city.
- Facing Lord Hanuman are the deities of Śrī Rāma, Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa. While local tradition attributes the installation of all three to Tulsidas, another traditional account distinguishes their origins: Tulsidas is associated with Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa, while the idol of Śrī Rāma is attributed to Ādi Śaṅkarācārya ( Śāstric tradition).
- The kshetra thus brings together the devotional legacy of Tulsidas and the spiritual heritage of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya in a unique setting of worship.
