Parashurama Kunda

Nestled amidst the Mishmi Hills on the banks of the sacred Lohit River, Parashuram Kund is one of the most revered pilgrimage centres in North-East Bharat. According to sacred tradition, Bhagavan Parashurama performed penance here to atone for his actions under the command of his father, Maharshi Jamadagni. It is believed that the waters of the Lohit absolved him of his burden, making the Kund an enduring symbol of repentance, purification, and divine grace.
The Kṣetra comprises the Parashurama Temple, dedicated to Bhagavan Parashurama, and a Hanuman Temple, within whose precincts stands a shrine dedicated to Jagadguru Bhagavatpāda Adi Shankaracharya. Local tradition reveres this as the place where Bhagavatpāda stayed for seven days in a humble kuṭīra. During his stay, he is believed to have engaged with influential practitioners of Tantric and non-Vaidika traditions through dialogue and spiritual discourse, reaffirming the principles of Vaidika Dharma with compassion, clarity, and the universal vision of Advaita.
Parashuram Kund stands as a profound reminder of Adi Shankaracharya's mission—not merely to traverse the sacred geography of Bharata, but to awaken society through knowledge, dialogue, and Dharma. Even in the easternmost frontiers of the nation, the living traditions associated with this Kṣetra continue to reflect his enduring legacy of spiritual renewal, cultural harmony, and civilizational unity.
