Kalika Mata Mandir - Chittorgadh

Perched within the historic expanse of Chittorgarh Fort, the Kalika Mata Temple stands as a resilient symbol of devotion—having withstood multiple invasions, fallen into ruin, and been restored time and again by the faith of its devotees and patronage from Kings.
Believed to have originally been a Surya temple, local traditions hold that it was later consecrated as a shrine to Kalika Mata following periods of destruction.
Another deeply revered tradition, supported by śāstric indicators, attributes the pratishṭā of Kalika here to Adi Shankaracharya. It is said that during times of invasion, the sacred Kalika vigraha worshipped by Adi Shankaracharya was carefully concealed within the palace to protect it, and was ceremoniously reinstalled in the temple once peace was restored.
The kṣetra also holds a lineage of worship associated with the Acharya, with a few other vigrahas in the परिसर traditionally believed to have been worshipped by him, preserving the continuity of śakti-upāsanā through centuries of challenge and renewal.
