Ashok Dhama, also known as Indradamneshwar Mahadev Mandir, is one of Bihar's most revered sacred temples, situated at Balgudar in the Lakhisarai district, where worship of Lord Mahadev has continued for centuries.
The present temple complex comprises the main shrine of Indradamneshwar Mahadeva, together with shrines dedicated to Devi Parvati, Sri Ganesha, Nandi, and other deities associated with the Shaiva tradition. The kshetra preserves a vibrant and uninterrupted tradition of worship, making it one of the important centres of Shaiva devotion in the region.
According to the traditions preserved at the Kṣetra, Jagadguru Ādi Śaṅkarācārya visited Ashok Dhama during his Digvijaya Yatra and offered worship to Bhagavān Indradamneśwara Mahādeva. Local tradition reveres this sacred Kṣetra as one blessed by Ādi Śaṅkarācārya's presence, reflecting his mission of revitalising Vaidika Dharma, strengthening sacred institutions, and fostering the spiritual unity of Bharata. Ashok Dhama continues to inspire devotees as a living centre of worship, preserving its ancient heritage and the enduring values of Sanātana Dharma.
