Bharat Sevashram Sangha - Bolpur

A documented stop on Adi Shankaracharya's route across India.

  • According to local and Shastric traditions,   Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya stayed at Bolpura   for three days during his Digvijaya across Eastern Bharat.
  • During his stay, a great assembly of   more than 3,000 scholars   representing the Nyaya   and   Buddhist   traditions gathered to engage Bhagavatpada in philosophical debate. The deliberations continued for   three consecutive days  , during which Adi Shankaracharya expounded the principles of Advaita Vedanta and addressed the questions raised by the assembled scholars.
  • The site is revered today as the place where this historic three-day Shastrartha took place, marking an important chapter in Bhagavatpada's mission to re-establish the Vedic tradition through dialogue and scriptural discourse.
